FOREST BATHING di Fiona Paterson

The artwork “Forest bathing” was created by Fiona Paterson, an Anglo-French land artist whose works can be found from Taiwan to Belgium, and from Japan to France. The cube that frames the artwork represents the constraints of our daily lives. The human figure at the centre (male when viewed from the front, female when viewed in profile) immerses itself in nature, in the woods, to regenerate, and the branches extending from it represent the stress leaving the body through this immersion in nature.

The installation was created for the environmental art project “Maddalena Bosco dell’Arte”, promoted by AAB, the Association of Brescian Artists.

Biography

Born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Fiona Paterson is a multidisciplinary artist whose artistic practice centres on environmental issues and social change. She works instinctively, employing a variety of techniques and often drawing on influences from her childhood in Zimbabwe and her European heritage. Her artistic practice is wide-ranging and experimental, integrating art, science and community engagement. Fiona’s previous work has involved collaborations with other visual artists, scientists and community members, with whom she has created sculptures, drawings, prints and environmental events using site-specific materials such as metal, wood, clay and fibres. Whilst diverse in terms of materials, the underlying themes of ecology, the human condition and our relationship with the environment are consistently explored in her work.
