STAGE 3 - Provaglio d’Iseo, Corte Franca, Adro, Capriolo, Paratico

  • Start: Provaglio d’Iseo
  • Arrival: Paratico
  • Total Length: 19,0 km
  • Difficulty by Foot: Easy
  • Climb up: 260 m

This could be called the water stage. Not only because you will be enjoy the silent atmosphere of the marshes as you cross Torbiere del Sebino, a natural oasis where respect for and protection of living beings is a beautiful duty, but also because, after crossing the villages and vineyards of Corte Franca, Adro and Capriolo, you will arrive to Paratico and the ‘blue mirror’ of the route: Lake Iseo, set between the mountains, a natural non-boundary between the two provinces.
The third stage begins near the Monastery of San Pietro in Lamosa, an artistic, historical and architectural gem. For centuries a landmark of Christianity, today it is a well-known venue for cultural activities. The route then enters Torbiere del Sebino Reserve, a natural area that originated from peat extraction activities, crossing a section of the "Southern Route." Since this is a short stage, it is possible to take your time and visit the entire Torbiere, admiring the vegetation, reeds, water lilies and small wildlife. (Note: the Via delle Sorelle credential can be used as an entrance ticket to the Reserve; however, dogs are not allowed). The route continues through the municipality of Corte Franca to the Church of Santa Maria in Favento in the municipality of Adro. From here, it skirts the urban area of Adro passing by the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the Church of S. Giovanni Battista, from which it is possible to take a detour to visit Father Costantino Ruggeri's "Via Crucis" and then continue northward to reach Capriolo. Once through the historic centre of Capriolo, from which you can take a detour to visit the Ursuline Sisters' Monastery in Piazzale Castello, the route follows the Oglio River along the Green Trail (Sentiero Verde dell’Oglio) to the municipality of Paratico on the border with Sarnico. In the municipalities of Paratico and Sarnico, the trail enters Oglio Nord Park.
