STAGE 6 CROSS PATH - Scanzorosciate, Nembro, Alzano Lombardo, Ponteranica, Bergamo

  • Start: Scanzorosciate
  • Arrival: Bergamo
  • Total Length: 28,2 km
  • Difficulty by Foot: Hard
  • Climb up: 940 m

The arrival from the hills, which offers a unique view of the Upper Town, is just one of the marvels of this last stage. From the encounter with the ancient Via Mercatorum to the Zuccarello Sanctuary, from the small ancient world of Olera, a medieval village in the lower Val Seriana, to the entrance to the Regional Park of the Bergamo hills. After having crossed paths, changed landscape, crossed places of other times and other altitudes, the splendid Upper Town welcomes the walker in its alleys to admire its gates, its churches and its ancient Walls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The sixth stage, for those who have chosen the Via TRAVERSA, starts from Scanzorosciate and proceeds in a northerly direction crossing the municipality of Villa di Serio until it reaches the Serio river. Walk along it up to Nembro where the two alternative routes are reconnected in a single route. Once in the center of Nembro, head towards the Sanctuary of the Madonna dello Zuccarello through the ancient Via Mercatorum. The Way then takes the CAI path n. 535 to go up to the locality of Lonno. At this point we proceed towards the Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord in Brumano, pass the hamlet of Burro and arrive in the enchanting village of Olera di Alzano Lombardo on the slopes of Monte Colletto where, from the churchyard of the Church of San Rocco, enjoys an immersive view in nature, in the silence of the place. From here you enter the Regional Park of the Bergamo Hills. Then continue in the direction of Ponteranica, passing Cà del Latte up to the Maresana, the mountain of the people of Bergamo. The Way descends to Rosciano, passes the Church of the same name and the Grotta di Lourdes Sanctuary, up to the town hall of Ponteranica. Along the road that runs along the Morla stream, you enter the gallery of the same name, built in the early 1900s and officially enter the city of Bergamo. The last stretch climbs up to Colle dei Roccoli via the Quisa cycle path inside the Regional Park of the Hills of Bergamo, and then continues up to Case Moroni. The panoramic path of via del Rione and via delle case Moroni offers a unique view of the Upper Town and leads directly to San Vigilio and its castle of the same name. From here you go down to enter the city walls through Porta S. Alessandro, you pass Piazza della Cittadella and the Church of S. Agata nel Carmine and you reach Piazza Vecchia di Bergamo Alta, the final destination of the stage and Via Delle Sorelle .
