This variation has been designed for those who don't feel like tackling the climb to Monte Maddalena via steep path no. 10. or in case of bad weather, which would make the section of the main route more difficult to tackle. The stage is the same as that of the main route up to the crossroads with via Dabbeni. Then the roads branch off. The lower variant continues on Via Dabbeni, crosses Mompiano, then goes up via Costalunga which, through a mule track and a wood, leads to Via del Goletto where the two routes meet again.
